Toxic chemicals don't belong in our daily lives
Better living through chemicals. That's what an ad promised us in the 1950s. And while human-made materials have brought many conveniences and leaps forward in technology, they have also brought harm to human development, our health, and environmental damage.
Credible scientific evidence has identified roughly 2,000 chemicals that can cause cancer, learning and developmental disabilities, asthma, infertility, obesity, organ damage, diabetes, and hormone disruption. You can find compilations of these chemicals at the Interstate Chemicals Clearinginghouse.
Many of these chemicals can be found in our everyday environment - in the products we use, in our air, water, and soil, in our food.
We work to get these toxic chemicals out of our daily lives, by passing laws and pushing for retailers and product makers to use safe materials and green chemistry.
