Retailers and manufacturers must limit toxics

Getting Ready for Baby

A national campaign to ensure all children's products are made without toxic chemicals.

The Getting Ready for Baby campaign urges the infant and toddler retail chains, particularly Buy Buy Baby and Babies"R"Us, not to sell products that contain chemicals that can harm children's health.  Launched in 2013, over 75 organizations have called on the two companies and others to take action. As a result, Buy Buy Baby and its parent company, Bed Bath and Beyond, issued a "Restricted Substances List," asking vendors to determine if they use chemicals on that list, if so, to move away from those chemicals, and to ensure alternatives were inherently less toxic, and have been working with vendors to remove flame retardant chemicals from specific categories, including crib mattresses, rocking chairs, and ottomans.
