To all New Yorkers:
There's not much time left for Governor Cuomo to sign the Child Safe Products Act into law. In a little bit, I’m going to ask you to call the Governor for me. But first, I’m going to tell you why.
Nearly fifteen years ago, a few young citizens started to push the New York legislature for a bill that would ban harmful chemicals from children’s products. That bill would come to be known as the Child Safe Products Act. It was a monumental piece of legislation. And, like with all monumental legislation, the bill needed a movement behind it. You helped give that to us. As ordinary New Yorkers like yourself spoke out in support of the Child Safe Products Act, the bill gained more support year over year. This legislative session, it passed in both chambers with an overwhelming mandate. We’ve gotten close a few times – but never this close. All we need now is the governor’s signature.
We refuse to be stopped at the one-yard line. As a mother of four children, I know how stressful it can be to spend the holidays shopping for children’s toys on a budget. New Yorkers do not need the added anxiety of wondering whether those products have toxic chemicals that might hinder their children’s development. Chemicals known to be harmful ought to be phased out, and chemicals that could be harmful need to be researched and disclosed. That’s what the Child Safe Products Act does. And that’s why I’m asking for your help.
Please take a moment to call the Governor at 518-474-8390 and urge him to sign the Child Safe Products Act into law. Remind him that toxic chemicals have no place in a child’s home. Remind him that children are uniquely vulnerable to the effects of chemical exposure. And remind him that the best health care is preventive care.
We’ve got a big list of issues to tackle in 2020. Let’s make sure Child Safe isn’t one of them.
Together we win,
