Countdown to End of 2019 Session
There are only a few days left in this legislative session, and the countdown is on! Our work to “turn off the tap” on toxic chemicals is even more crucial, given federal deregulation.
Three of our policy priorities have already passed both houses:
The Child Safe Products Act -- requires disclosure of over 100 toxic chemicals in children's products -- more than any other state -- and bans some of the very worst. This could be the strongest children's products law in the nation!
Chlorpyrifos ban -- given the federal government's failure to act, New York is restricting this dangerous pesticide. CHNY ensured broad bipartisan support on this issue.
Tougher lead standards -- lowers the definition of elevated pediatric blood lead from 10 micrograms per deciliter to 5 micrograms per deciliter, and establishes funding for primary prevention.
What’s next? More of our bills are on the move. Here’s where they stand:
PFAS in fire fighting foam ban has passed the Senate and is under debate in the Assembly.
PFAS in food wrappers ban is under review in Senate Rules and moved out of Assembly Environmental Conservation.
Period Product Ingredient Disclosure has passed the Senate, and moved out of Assembly Codes to Rules. Action alert! Show your support for this Bill!
Personal Care Product Ingredient Disclosure moved out of Assembly Environmental Conservation, and is currently in Senate Rules.
This is the final push -- you can help by making a gift in support of CHNY. Please give generously. Together, we’re unstoppable.
We appreciate your support!
